Casting.
I wanted to try new techniques and i thought that casting would be the perfect way to experiment. With the casting, I wanted to give the effect that the ivy was physically a part of the wall, thus the urban environment. As I said before, I want to combine textures if possible and I thought this would be an interesting experiment.
(The plaster is still in the process of drying..)

My first attempt at photographing my 3d wire piece. Seeing as urban gardening caught my attention a couple of weeks ago, I decided to make my own ivy. -ManMade Ivy. I liked the contradiction it protrayed.
I am going to make more and experiment with its mobility.

Ivy.
Lovely Lovely Ivy. While on my adventures looking for urban gardens I noticed how ivy makes its own way through the city and in turn becomes part of the city's garden. Someone advised me to stick to one piece of nature so i think i will try to focus on ivy. I quiet like the different layers of ivy. You don't know exactly what is underneath ie. the wall, its anchoring function etc. I want to still want to explore textures and different techniques. Layering might be an interesting thought too. For now i want to get to know the ivy ie. its patterns, shapes etc.

This blog has become very temperamental. It doesn't like my links or anything I would like to put up in general so I'm going to try once more to show my progress development over the last while and also show a few pictures on what I have been working on so far (if they decide to upload this time!).

As I think I've mentioned before, at the start I found this project very tedious and at some points frustrating but I think I'm on the right road at long last :)

My initial plan was to explore the Elderly in the city but that wasn't going to plan unfortunately so I began to explore their personal environments i.e., where they lived, their houses etc. Eventually I landed in a garden of a house. I found this really interesting for some reason. I liked the idea of someone choosing to live in an Urban Environment like a town or city, but still feeling the need for some nature in their lives and so, they physically put it there. I started off with some observational drawing and since then I have started Prints. Last week I did a simple Lino Print just to get the hang of it. I enjoyed the process, even though it took longer than I planned. This week I plan to try out more print work maybe some Monoprints.

I have an idea of trying to combine the textures of nature with surfaces I find in the city. Maybe mix or swap the two. I think this might be a good way to explore different textures.

My aim for the next while is to develop new techniques and exhaust my investigations until the last. Hopefully this will work out :)
Fingers crossed this posts this time :)

From the Elderly to Urban Gardening

DevelopmentProcess

The Development Process of any project is essential, and for this particular project it was crucial. I've spent the past five weeks trying to develop my initial idea into something worth studying. For me, it seemed a lot easier than it was and has caused a lot of heart ache and distress along the way, but at long last I think I might have something :)

Urban Environment

First year, Semester 1 project: Urban Environment

My initial idea was to focus on the elderly people in the city. Since then i have developed it into the environments of these people and now i have decided to  focus on gardens in the city. I hope to develop this into a study of natural life in an urban environment.
